The next meeting of the Members of the Hamburg Historical Society will be held on Wednesday, September 16th at 7:00 pm. The meeting will be held at the Society's museum located at 5859 South Park Avenue in Hamburg. There will be a guest speaker and refreshments will be served.

2015 Annual Holidays Open House

The Hamburg Historical Society's annual Holiday Open House will be held on December 6, 2015 from 1:00 to 4:00 at the Society's museum located at 5859 South Park Road in Hamburg. The Society's Open House will coincide with the Christmas Open House being held at the same time by the Hamburg Antiques Study Group at the Boies-Lord House located next to the museum.

Master story teller and locl author David M. Smeltz will be giving a speech at the museum on Christmas in the Civil War. Smeltz is the author of the Adentures of Sidney Sawyer seriers of books, which is a saga of six novels that cover the Civil War from Bleeding Kansas to Appomattox. There will also be live music at the Open House and refreshments will be served. There will be more information about the Open House in the coming weeks.

Reichard, as part of her Women of History series, will be performing as famed aviator Amelia Earhart at the Society's 2016 Holidays Open House. Denise's performance will begin at 1:00 pm. Homemade desserts and beverages will follow her performance.

Bob Kaufman Collection of Negatives and Proofs

The remaining collection of Bob Kaufman's negatives and proofs will be made available - free of charge and on a first-come basis - at the Hamburg Historical Society museum from 9 AM to 3 PM on September 23rd, 24th, and 30th and on October 1st. The collection is comprised of thousands of portrait proofs Kaufman took of his many customers from the 1950's through the 1980's. Visitors will be free to take as many of the proofs of their family, friends and classmates as they want.

Robert Edward Kaufman was born in 1927 and was raised in Orchard Park, where he graduated from high school. For many years he lived on the first block of Long Avenue in Hamburg. His successful photography business was a short walk from home - at first occupying the Kronenberg Building, and perhaps more memorable to locals, in the narrow shop at 31 Main Street. Portraits of many wonderful faces were always on display along the walls leading to his studio, which was located at the rear of the camera shop.

During this event, the Hamburg Historical Society will be making available for sale for $5 apiece any of its nearly 400 Hamburg High School and Frontier High School yearbooks, which cover the period from the 1920’s through the 1980’s.

Member Meeting with Special Guest Speaker Denise Riechard on Wednesday, November 15, 2017

All members are invited to our last meeting of the year as Denise Riechard will take us back in time to experience the life of Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell in a creative dramatic portrayal. Dr. Blackwell became the first woman to earn a medical diploma in the United States. She began to practice medicine in New York City in 1850 and later founded the first school of nursing in this country. In 1875 she became a professor in the London School of Medicine for Women.

Mike Randall performs his one man portrayal of Charles Dickens in Charles Dickens Presents: "A Christmas Carol" It will be co-sponsored with the Hamburg Palace Theater at 31 Buffalo Street on Sunday, December 9th at 2:30PM. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for children under 12 years old.

A Yard Sale Fundraiser for Hamburg Historical Society will be held Saturday, September 17th, from 9AM-3PM. It will be held outside ( or in case of rain, inside) on the grounds at 5859 South Park Ave., Hamburg NY (across the street from the Erie County Fairgrounds!).
Pressed glass, sofa, chairs,early farm tools, slat bed, cane chairs, lamps, glassware, silverware, musical items, nautical items, Buffalo/ Rochester/Hamburg items, etc.
A LOT of items from the archives will be available…it will be HUGE!
